Chasing The Dream - IRN Awards 2008
IRN Awards 2008.
Minster FM's team have been shortlisted for their nomination in the 'Best Sports Coverage' category.
Chasing the Dream told the story of every York City fan’s dream to see the Minstermen back in the Football League.
In April 2007, that burning ambition was well and truly alive.
After squandering the chance of automatic promotion, City had to make do with a route back into league football via the play offs.
The draw was made – Morecambe would be the visitors to Kit Kat Crescent in the first leg, then it would be a trip to Christie Park for the second.
It was looking good. The opener on home turf finished goaless, and with York City having the best away record in English football that season, it seemed the impossible was possible – York City would be back!
There was a real buzz around the city, even the Archbishop of York; Dr John Sentamu had faith in the Minstermen, wearing his red, white and blue scarf with pride.
Surely after three seasons as a non-league outfit, this would be the year York made its city proud – they were after all, ‘Chasing The Dream’.
