UK Premiere of hit US musical Disenchanted!
Hit new musical gets UK Premiere in York

The UK Premiere of hit new US musical Disenchanted! is set to open in York next week.

Pick Me Up Theatre won the rights after contacting the show’s writer Dennis T Giacino – he liked the look of previous productions by the company and agreed to let the show go on.

This is a tongue-in-cheek look at the REAL fairytale princesses, not the sugary Disneyfied version. They are sassy, strong-willed and full of fun.

Poisoned apples. Glass slippers. Who needs ‘em?! Not Snow White and her posse of disenchanted princesses in the hilarious hit musical that's anything but Grimm.

After multiple sold-out runs in America, these royal renegades toss off their tiaras to bring their hilariously subversive, not-for-the-kiddies musical from New York City to Old York City for its UK premiere – fairy tales will never be the same!

Disenchanted! Opens at the John Cooper Studio Theatre, 41 Monkgate, York on September 23 and runs to October 1. Tickets from www.pickmeuptheatre.com or from the Theatre Royal Box Office on 01904 623568.

Human and animal, alive and dead, familiar and strange; this major exhibition will explore how artists represent Flesh in their work.
Paintings by artists including, Peter Paul Rubens, Edgar Degas, Jean-Baptiste Siméon Chardin, Circle of Rembrandt and Francis Bacon will show how the body and flesh have long been subject to intense scrutiny by artists.
These will be contrasted with contemporary works by internationally acclaimed artists Bruce Nauman, Jenny Saville and Adriana Varejeo as well as pieces by Sarah Lucas, John Coplans, Berlinde de Bruyckere and John Stezaker recently acquired by York Art Gallery through the Art Fund’s RENEW scheme.
The exhibition will raise questions about the body and ageing, race and gender, touch and texture and surface and skin.
Jointly curated with Dr Jo Applin from the University of York, the exhibition will be accompanied by a publication based on new research and a varied events programme including a symposium.
